Speaker Profile:
Shi Chunxiang is a Grade II Research Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at the National Meteorological Information Center. She is a recipient of the Special Government Allowance from the State Council, a leading scientific and technological talent of the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), a national chief scientist, and a winner of provincial/ministerial-level first prizes for scientific and technological progress. She has published over 190 academic papers and co-authored 8 books.
Professor Shi has led several major projects, including those under the National Key R&D Program, Key Program of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, National 863 Program, and meteorological industry-specific initiatives.
She co-led the development of China’s first 40-year global atmospheric/land surface reanalysis dataset (CRA-40, now renamed CMA-RA), achieving quality comparable to international third-generation standards. She also spearheaded the creation of China’s first operational Land Data Assimilation System (CLDAS), currently upgraded to V3.0. Additionally, she developed the 3D multi-source heterogeneous meteorological data fusion and analysis system (3DCloudA), which has been operationalized.
As chief scientist, she led her team in establishing China’s first integrated global-national-local multi-layer, multi-element, multi-source merged gridded analysis operational system. The quality of the analysis products for China surpasses that of international counterparts, filling a critical gap in this field.
